Staten Island Beaches
Staten Island has so many wonderful beaches to spend the weekends at or to enjoy a day trip get away. South Beach is a favorite among NYC residents and locals. A stones throw from the Verrazano Bridge this beach has a 1.5 mile long board walk with a bike path over looking the water. Local favorite restaurant South Fin Grill is located directly on the boardwalk and has an outdoor bar. South Beach is popular with Staten Islanders and NYC natives who just want to relax and enjoy a day at the beach without having to deal with the traffic and crowds of Coney Island. Further south and connected to South Beach is Midland Beach. This beach has tons of parking, an outdoor barbecuing area and, adjacent baseball and soccer fields. Directly on the beach in the summer volleyball courts are set up as well. Unique to Midland Beach is the Ocean Breeze Fishing Pier that runs 800ft. If you are looking for a more get away type day trip Cedar Grove Beach is perfect. With its location not being on a main Boulevard Cedar Grove gives you a more private feeling. You’ll feel as if you were miles away from the city at this beach. Wolfe’s Pond Park offers the most versatility for activities during a day at the beach. With Wolfe’s Pond being a NYC Park it has playgrounds, tennis courts, hockey rink, dog park, Forest walking trails and plenty of parking. The beach is small but very serene. Lastly there is Great Kills Beach located within Gateway National Recreation Area. This beautiful beach is directly across from a Marina and has a wonderful sea breeze. Perfect for cooling off during a hot summer day.
